Service Description

Sarah Ann Austin, MFA (@Legacy Prints & Papers) Learn to create two beautiful and functional Appalachian brooms: the turkey wing whisk broom and the tiny loop broom. The turkey wing broom is a stunning example of Appalachian folk art. Its unique shape and intricate construction make it a conversation piece as well as a useful tool. The tiny loop broom is a smaller, more delicate broom that is perfect for dusting delicate items or sweeping up small messes. Both brooms are made with natural broomcorn, a type of sorghum grass that is known for its durability and flexibility. Learn the traditional techniques for binding and shaping the broomcorn to create a sturdy and attractive broom. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. You will leave with a deep appreciation for the traditional craft of broom making and two beautiful and functional brooms to enjoy for years to come. (A portion of the proceeds from this workshop will be donated to Art For All)
